How he popped the question:
It was a huge surprise, I did not expect anything. He flew my parents up to Pretoria from Mossel Bay for a visit and even that did not raise any suspicion. We had a gathering with his parents and mine. He stood up to welcome them to our house and said a few exquisite words about me and then got down on one knee and proposed. I appreciated the fact that he included our parents in such a momentous occasion.

The Dress:
Designed by Carelina from George. Carelina took all my dreams, visions and aspirations I had for my wedding gown and created it, just like a magical fairy godmother. She is a very talented designer.

The Suit:
Purchased from Edgards and we then had it professionally tailored.

The Bridesmaids Dresses:
Carelina assisted with the design and choice of fabric.

Colour Scheme:
Variations of blue and Silver.

Flowers:
The bouquet was a variety of Orchids. Antique silk / Vendello roses and greenery were used for the floral decorations.

The Ceremony:
The ceremony was outside at the Diaz Hotel with an awesome view of the ocean.

The Reception:
Starlight room on the 12th floor at the Diaz Hotel, Mossel Bay.

The Cake:
Very unique, my husband’s uncle made a sail boat for us, it was about 1 meter long and just as high. It was also transported to Mossel Bay from Pretoria by car.

Favours:
We had key rings made, one design for the gents and another for the ladies. It incorporated the theme.

Decor:
CBS Bodyworks of Mossel Bay. I live in Pretoria and our wedding was in Mossel Bay where my parents live. Anneline was very accommodating; she really went out of her way and provided some fresh ideas. She never had any problems e-mailing me photos for my review of tables and décor. Anneline and my mom worked very hard and achieved it that our wedding had an air of elegance.

Music:
We had a violin and flute playing live at the ceremony. We hired a DJ for the reception.

The Honeymoon:
We opted of a real off the beaten track adventure in Mozambique. Not one moment of regret, it was wonderful.

Brides Tip:
Take weather into account especially if your ceremony is outside and you are planning your photos outside. We woke up to a beautiful day and it was so up until 30 minutes before I was to walk down the aisle. An icy cold wind came up and even though it was not ideal we did not allow it to spoil the ceremony. We could not take the photos outside and had to improvise by taking the photos in the hotel’s foyer as your guests were freezing. Always have a plan B. And even though you have a plan B remember that there are certain things that are beyond your control, pause, take a deep breath, re-adjust your smile and do not allow anything or anyone to spoil your special day. Appreciate your parents, give them a special hug and mention on your day.

Special Moments:
I know it sounds like a cliché, but my husband’s face as I came walking down the aisle was something indescribable. Also taking into account that most of the planning was done via e-mail and extensive phone calls it was amazing to see how every thing came together and how people contribute to give you your little-girl-dream day come true!
